Measure the hole you have just cut and cut a piece of spare felt so that it is about 75mm larger than the hole all the way around.
How to patch roofing felt.

Removing the old felt and nails.
Place the patch over the hole and draw around the edge with chalk to mark where you will need to apply cold felt adhesive.
Drag it gently from one end of the roof to the other east to west or west to east.

Begin at the bottom working in horizontal lines and gradually moving upward.
Generally the felt is tacked all the way along each edge.
Where wind driven rain is working under the roof and causing leaks then the felt will need to be replaced.
