Instead of replacing the felt roof we decided to use a product call. To replace a small section of roofing felt involves stripping the tiles from the roof and replacing felt between two joists.

Removing the old felt and nails. Place the patch over the hole and draw around the edge with chalk to mark where you will need to apply cold felt adhesive. Drag it gently from one end of the roof to the other east to west or west to east. The first thing you need to do is remove the old worn felt from the roof.

Begin at the bottom working in horizontal lines and gradually moving upward. Generally the felt is tacked all the way along each edge. Where wind driven rain is working under the roof and causing leaks then the felt will need to be replaced.
